Telltale Introduces Multiplayer in Adventures Games for the First Time
Telltale will spin its narrative expertise into a Batman game in its upcoming series of adventure games. Telltale is known for its modern classics in the adventure genre like The Walking Dead, The Walk Among Us, Game of Thrones, and Minecraft: Story Mode. However, for the first time, Telltale is shoehorning a multiplayer mode for their adventure take in the Batman universe.
Telltale’s rendition of Batman will have the same core gameplay as its previous titles with a rather strange but welcome addition: other players can join you in making decisions. Telltale revealed this feature at Comic-Con this weekend.
Telltale is aware that most of the gamers who played their games are sometimes have friends and other people giving their own hot take when the game is presenting them a choice.
“Now, from two to 2,000-plus people can help the player make decisions,” Telltale’s communications boss, Job Stauffer, said. “We are now turning all of Telltale’s games into a live interactive multiplayer experience”
This Batman game will be the first game in Telltale’s roster of excellent adventure games to have multiplayer aspects that the developers call “Crowd Play” feature. Turning on this feature will let the game provide the player a URL that other people can visit to participate in the gaming sessions. Participants can rate different decisions a thumbs up or thumbs down. They can also vote for dialogue options when the part of the game calls for it. The voting session will be seen by the players themselves. The host player can set up the game to either choose the popular choice made by the audience automatically or the player still retains the decision-making part of the game.
This kind of gameplay should be very palatable to streamers on Twitch or YouTube that would love to have the feature that allows the host and the audience to interact within the game. However, Stauffer warned against latency. Without promising anything, he believes that this hiccup should just be an initial problem to be fixed later on.
The first episode of the Batman series will debut on August 2 across several platforms—PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, the previous generation consoles Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game will also grace the iOS and Android market. The initial plan is to have the season end by the end of the year if the short gaps of released dates won’t hurt the quality of the games.
