Most of the publications already have pictures of the Radeon RX 480. One of the conditions though, is to stay mum on the video cards and only publish photos of the external components of the GPU. However, someone braved the front and decided to release benchmarks and other data that indicates performance. It looks like the Radeon RX 480 will have performance similar to GTX 980 and AMD’s own Radeon R9 Fury.

GGPC (Good Gaming PC), a YouTube PC enthusiast published benchmarks showing the Radeon RX 480 running modern games like the Doom reboot, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, GTA V, and one of the platforms most played game; Counter-Strike: GO. All of the videos are now off YouTube but those who were able to see the videos prior to them being taken down had observed that the fps counter showed performance similar to the GTX 980. Doom was tested at maximum settings plus Shadows Quality and Virtual Texturing Page Size put into “nightmare”, which by its name, is a higher level of difficulty. At the resolution of 1920×1080, the RX 480 was able to pull more or less 100 fps.

PCOnline got a Sapphire version of RX 480 and decided to bare the internals, removing the heatsink and the case of the GPU. The Sapphire version of AMD RX 480 features matte black PCB without a backplate. For those looking for aesthetic appeal, the video card will still look great to those people who have a windowed case to boast their video cards. It is still expected that Sapphire will release the card with a backplate. For the input / output, the RX 480 has 3 DisplayPort and one HDMI connection as standard. The reference also supports DVI-D and other designs might feature DVI-D ports.

The AMD RX 480 is expected to launch next week, June 29, 2016. As of this writing, with the financial instability after the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union, the AMD RX 480 may increase price in the territory and maybe in other countries. Though the RX 580s in stock is still not paid in the stores, they must be paid in US Dollars not pounds. This will only mean that the value of pound will surely result in increased in retail price if by the time the GPUs are available in the market, the pound remains flopping. The stocks are provisionally booked at 1.41 and now the rate is around 1.35.
